Court fixes July 28 on whether Nik Sapeia to enter defence

The Kota Baharu Magistrate’s Court has fixed July 28 for decision whether to call Datuk Nik Sapeia Nik Yusoff to enter defence to a charge of causing hurt to Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad and three others.

Magistrate Azman Mustapha set the date after Deputy Public Prosecutor Raja Rozela Raja Toran took about one hour to sum up her case today.
Nik Sapeia, 53, was charged with committing the offence at the Sultan Ismail Petra Airport in Pengkalan Chepa at about 11am on July 28, 2006 by spraying a substance which posed a danger to the body when inhaled.
If convicted under Section 324 of the Penal Code, he is liable to a maximum jail term of three years and a fine.
In her summing up, Raja Rozela said that throughout the trial which saw the prosecution producing 20 witnesses, the probability of Nik Sapeia committing the act as charge was very high.
